If you’ve ever had a phrase on the tip of your tongue, you probably took to Google to search for the right wording. Writefull does this work for you. It’s a free, helps improve your writing, compares phrases, shows you how they’re worded depending on the context, suggests synonyms, and more.
Writefull doesn’t automatically scan your text the way Grammarly does, but once you download it, you have it available at your fingertips. You can type a phrase into Writefull’s search box, then ask it to do a number of things, including:
- See how often your text appears in a database (based on Google search results, books, and news). This is useful if you want to see how other writers have written that specific phrase, especially in context.
- Compare two phrases. If you type two phrases into the tool (fewer people vs. less people, for example) can see how often one phrase is used versus another and how they’re used in context, even depending on the medium—books, articles, blog posts, etc.
- Get synonyms in context: If you add an asterisk before and after a word, the tool will suggest synonyms based on the context.
The app will also translate and help you pronounce a word or phrase. You can download it directly to your desktop or add it as a Chrome extension. Once you do, you just open the app and enter the phrase you want to analyze. Writefull will tell you the specific commands to type, depending on the task you want to complete.
